Baja Sol has chosen Solus LED to retrofit 7 more of their stores into LED lighting after experiencing continued monthly savings for their test store (St. Louis Park) over a 4 month period. The impact of retrofitting over to LED has not only given the restaurant monthly energy savings, but also a zero maintenance cost solution and improved lighting ambiance. Baja’s savings have been slightly higher than what Solus originally projected and modeled for their test store. Great news for Baja Sol Restaurants Group.

Improving the In-Store Customer Experience in a Way You’d Never Expect
Lighting is an important part of a store — it influences a shopper’s mood,
their perception of the quality of the product and has the ability to highlight
specific products (or product features) in a flattering way.
Long lead times hamper SSL sales and broader deployment
LED lighting manufacturers can minimize supply chain issues by focusing on supplier fulfillment, selecting sources, and service standards
LEDs Winning Light Race
Today’s light-emitting diode light bulbs have an environmental edge over compact fluorescent lamps. And that gap is expected to grow significantly as technology and manufacturing methods improve in the next five years, according to a new report from the Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and UK-based N14 Energy Limited.
“The light-emitting diode lamp is a rapidly evolving technology that, while already energy efficient, will become even more so in just a few short years,” said Marc Ledbetter, who manages PNNL’s solid-state lighting testing, analysis and deployment efforts. “Our comprehensive analysis indicates technological advancements in the near future will help people who use these lamps to keep shrinking their environmental footprints.”
LED Myths
Here are 3 LED myths everyone should know…
Myth 1 LED bulb watts equal to incandescent bulb watts
Truth: Incandescent bulbs usually stress watts instead of lumens thus consumers’ buying habits have been affected as time passes. Unlike incandescent bulbs, since LED luminous efficacy is still growing, watt does not represent its lumen. Some manufacturers put labels on their product packages such as “40W incandescent replacement bulbs” to help consumers to make the purchase decision.
Myth 2 The higher power, the brighter LED
Truth: LED brightness is generally measured with lumen. For LED luminaires of different powers, the higher lumen output it has the more energy it saves. E.g. 5W LED bulbs compared with 6W ones, if the former have higher lumen output, then the former is actually more energy saving than the latter one.
Myth 3 The more LED lamp beads, the higher brightness and price
Truth: The luminous efficacy of a single LED chip varies with different LED technologies. In the current mainstream market, there are various forms of LED chips including high power, medium power, low power, COB chips. E.g. A medium power LED chip has approximately 45lm flux output while a high power one reaches 120 lm and above. It is probable that the luminous effect of 1 LED equals to that of 3 LEDs. In terms of the cost, the high power chip is priced higher than the medium power chip. Therefore, the cost performance ratio of the LED luminaire mainly depends on the components adopted.
