LEDs Illuminate Holiday Savings

LED Christmas decorations are finding their way into the holiday motifs of more electric cooperative consumer-members, as replacing incandescent light strings with energy-efficient LEDs could pay off in savings. The 2010 National Christmas Tree featured energy-efficient LED Christmas lights. The 2012 tree will be lit during a White House ceremony, Dec. 6. “A typical incandescent strand with 50 mini bulbs uses 25 watts,” said Patti Corbeil, the Energy Star lighting program administrator at New Hampshire Electric Cooperative. “An equivalent LED strand uses between 2 and 4 watts of electricity.”
